URGENT - Wednesday and Thursday this week

22nd June 2026
Dear Families,

The Met Office has now issued a Red warning for extreme heat on Wednesday, 24th and Thursday, 25th June UK weather warnings - Met Office

As such, we have taken the difficult decision to close the school from 12.30pm on both days. The decision has not been taken lightly but follows the temperature checks in each classroom at lunchtime today, with many rooms already reaching above 26 degrees. I do recognise the decision may impact on family work commitments but the safety and wellbeing of the children and staff are our paramount concern.

On both days, the school day will finish at 12.30pm. The children will have lunch first and then return to their classrooms to collect their home things before going to the white/green gate to be collected promptly at 12.30pm. There will be no after-school clubs running on either day.

In the meantime:

Please ensure your child comes to school with a water bottle than can be refilled throughout the day. Water bottles will be kept near the children and they will be encouraged to stay hydrated.

Please apply suncream to your child before school and, if preferred, sent them to school with suncream (named) so they can apply it themselves before break and lunchtime. Children are not permitted to share suncream in case of allergies.

Children are encouraged to remain in the shade as much as possible.

Children should bring in (and wear) a sunhat (named).

Windows remain open across the school, along with blinds drawn to try to reduce the heat in the classrooms.

Fans are on in each classroom.

Children may bring in a named tea towel to dry themselves during the day (for example, if they dip their hands/feet in cool water periodically).

Children should wear cool clothing eg T-shirt and shorts.

Please do let me know if you have any queries and thank you for all your support,
